Oregon Registry Credentials
Coming in Fall 2009
Credentials: What Are They?
A credential as defined by the National Child Care Information Center is a “document certifying that an individual has met a defined set of requirements set forth by the grantor of the credential, usually related to skills and knowledge and may include demonstrations of competence.” www.NCCIC.Org
The purpose of the state-approved Oregon Registry credentials is to recognize a professional’s knowledge, skills and achievements in order to improve the quality of services and thereby increase positive outcomes for children and families.
For the past two years the Oregon Center for Career Development in Childhood Care and Education (OCCD) has been working with state partners and other professionals to develop two new credentials for the field of childhood care and education:
Credentials: How Do They Benefit You?
- Be recognized and acknowledged for your professional achievements
- Improve your practice by reflecting on your knowledge and skills
- Demonstrate your commitment to professional development
- Oregon Registry Infant Toddler Professional Credential:
- Meets the Child Care Division qualifications as a head teacher in an infant toddler classroom in a Certified Child Care Center
- Meets the Child Care Division qualifications as a Certified Family Child Care provider caring for more than two children under the age of 2
- Oregon Registry Director Credential:
- Meets the Child Care Division qualifications as a director for a Certified Child Care Center or as a provider in a Certified Family Child Care Home
- Approved by NAEYC as a state credential for the Alternative Pathways to Achieve Educational Qualifications of a Program Administrator in a NAEYC accredited program
Credentials: Where Are We in the Process?
We are currently field testing processes and forms for both credentials with plans for the field tests to be completed by the end of May 2009 and for the credentials to be available in fall of 2009.
